A flea will live on 1 host for the whole of it's lifetime and lays eggs which then drop out into the environment. The eggs develop into larvae and then pupae where they are in a protective cocoon. Most of the flea population is out in the environment and it's important to understand this life cycle to successfully eliminate fleas
