Matt Young B.V.Sc.
Matt was born in Wollongong and grew up in Dapto. He went to primary school locally at St John's Dapto and went to high school just down the road at St Joseph's catholic high school, Albion Park. Matt was always passionate about caring for animals and wanted to be a vet from some time in primary school. After school he studied Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney and gained his bachelor's degree in 1997.
Following graduation Matt moved to Leeton in the Riverina district in NSW where he was in a mixed (small and large animal) practice. After 2 years he moved to Wagga Wagga and made the change to small animal practice. When his wife Rachel fell pregnant they made the decision to move back home to Wollongong, to be near family and friends.
Since then Matt has worked in small animal practice in the northern suburbs of Wollongong and then in Wollongong itself. He has been living back in Dapto for the last 7 years.
He is committed to providing veterinary care in a caring and compassionate way. Pets are an important part of the family and Matt recognises the important role they play in your life, and enjoys working with you to ensure that your pet is healthy and happy and can live in harmony with your family.
On his 21st birthday Matt got his first dalmatian, Tamara. He loves dalmatians because they are fun, love being with people and are always happy. Tamara was his close companion for 11 years and lived up to all of his expectations. Tamara has now passed on and Matt has another dalmatian which he received from a family that couldn't care for him adequately at 6 months of age. Elmo is a clown and loves life. He is genetically unique (probably as a result of inbreeding) having hip dysplasia, a missing toe and short ears that like to stick up in the air, but is a much loved family member all the same.
Outside of work Matt spends most if his time running around after his four kids. They are often seen at the practice caring for the animals, playing football or dancing around.
